Terms

Backglow is made by one person. It changes settings in macOS that Apple doesn't document, so you use it at your own risk.

Last updated 6 November 2026.

At your own risk

Backglow controls the logo light through parts of macOS that Apple doesn't document or support. I test it on real hardware, but I can't promise it works on every Mac or every macOS version, or that it never causes a problem, including with the logo light, the display or anything else in your Mac.

Backglow is provided as is, without any warranty. By using it, you accept that risk.

If something looks wrong

Quit Backglow. The logo goes back to Apple's settings. Two settings stay until you change them back, on purpose:

Turn Logo Off keeps the logo dark even with Backglow quit. Turn it back on from Backglow's menu.

Remove Limit lifts the limit macOS puts on the logo in bright and dark rooms. Turn off “Full brightness in any room” in Settings and macOS's limit comes back.

If the logo still doesn't look right, restart your Mac. If that doesn't fix it, email me.

Liability

As far as the law allows, I'm not liable for any damage or loss from using Backglow, including damage to your Mac or its logo light. If I am liable anyway, it's limited to what you paid for Backglow.

Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

Your license

The free version is free to use on as many Macs as you like. A Pro license is for one Mac. Please don't share your license key.

macOS updates can change or break things. I'll do my best to keep Backglow working, but I can't promise every feature works on every future macOS version.

Refunds

Pro has a 14-day money-back guarantee. If a macOS update breaks Pro and I can't fix it, you get your money back then too. Polar handles payments and refunds; their terms cover the purchase itself.

Not Apple

Backglow isn't made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Apple. MacBook Pro and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc.

Changes

If these terms change, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
